PostSubject: Getting an Electric Keyboard   Thu May 28, 2009 4:26 pm

I love playing these things. Im buying one worth 180$ at the price of 130$. It has 61-keys, built in lessons, and a bunch of play along songs to help you along the way. Im gonna learn this, lol.

Any of you guys play keyboards/pianos? Got tips or wanna discuss?

I used to play the piano. Tips? Practice.
Memorized a song? play it every now and then or else you WILL forget.

I forgot everything LoL. If i started learning again, i'd have to start with the basics, again.

Play along songs? useless. I would only use it to compare it to my own playing.

And try not to kill your hands with improper posture. But you'll probably be okay since you have improper typing posture too.

No. Keyboards are different. lol. I type with 2 fingers on computer keyboards, but I use 8 for piano keys.

Nice.. I got an electric Keyboard. I'm not too good. I got the fingering down I think, I just can't always tell you which are the notes if you point to a certain place on the keyboard, except for the C's. Those I know super well... And I can read the Treble Clef. But I'm an Alto Saxophonist first so.. Treble Clef is no big deal. I could read that in my sleep. But the fudging Bass Cleff is giving me trouble. I only know one note, maybe two by heart. Then the rest I have to move up and down to figure out. Ticks me off. I know where F and C are on the Staff. Just glad i haven't tried anything with Ledger lines yet.

Did you get one from Yamaha?

Indeed. Keeping at it is the best way to go. Just make sure when You keep at it, you are doing it correctly. By the way.. 8 fingers...? You are suppose to use all 10. Jee... I hope you haven't started on a bad note already. Well.. at least I use all 10. C,D,E,F,G on the left, and the same on the right. Then you are suppose to move your thumb or pinky, depending on the arm, to hit A and B. I believe A is suppose to be with your middle finger. For the right hand at least. Idk about the left.

Oh by the way, speaking of this (seeing as to how I never replied), the keyboards really nice. Its just that I forget things too quickly XD. It has like, 100+ built in songs to learn, and if you practice that a lot, it helps you memorize keys and what sounds they'll make, giving you an idea of how to play songs even without sheets, but Im nowhere near that level yet. I dont even know how to read sheets. It came with a manual that teaches you how, and has sheets inside for all the built-in songs, but I have to look at that.
